Joel himself fourth-generation California vintner, who was born into a family of California vintners – his grandfather ran Inglenook Winery in the 60’s, and his father founded Montevina Winery in the 70’s.

On arrival to the U.S., not speaking a word of English, the two lived in Evanston, Illinois and remained there for 12 years before moving to the Napa Valley.
